The Department of Financial Technology (FinTech), formerly known as the Department of Banking Information Management, was established in 1986 and renamed as the Department of FinTechin 2020.We have 15faculty members, including4 professors,6 associate professors and5 assistant professors; 4 doctoral supervisors and 11 master supervisors. There is oneLevel-2 Professor (Professors in China fall into 4 levels) and one CFA and FRM dual-certificate holder. In recent years, a number of outstanding young talents have been introduced from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom and other well-knowndomestic or abroad universities, formingdifferent research and teaching groups includingtheElectronicFinance, Financial Big Data, Financial Modelling and Optimization, InvestmentStrategiesand Quantitative Trading, aiming to solvethe major problemscoming from the financial industry.
The Department of FinTech is currently enrolling undergraduate students (majoring in Financial Engineering), master students(majoring in Financial Technology and Financial Engineering) andPh.D students(majoring in Financial Technology, Anti-Money Laundering, Financial Engineering, Financial Bia Data, Financial Modeling and Optimization). The main courses offered by the department includeElectronicFinance, Continuous Time Finance, Discrete Time Finance, Computer Programming, Financial Big Data Applications, Quantitative Trading Methods and Techniques, Matlab and Financial Toolbox Applications, Financial Engineering Case Studies, Futures and Derivatives Investment Research Practice, etc.
The Department of FinTech has witnessed the various development stages of China's financial industry, from electronization, informatizationto intellectualization.We haveundertaken severalmajor financial informatization research projectsincludingthe national‘Seventh Five-Year Plan’,‘Eighth Five-Year Plan’ and‘Tenth Five-Year Plan’. The Department of FinTech has formed agroup of expert-level professors whonot only master financial theory and practice, but also skillfully use various modern financial management techniques and methods. The Department of FinTech has presided over a number of nationalkeyfinancial informatization projects, more than 20 national projects such as major projects of the National Social Science Foundation, key projects of the National Social Science Foundation, planning projects of the National Social Science Foundation, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, dozens of provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects,publishedmore than 10 academic monographs, more than 10 textbooks. We has been awarded more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards, including the Shaanxi Provincial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences and the Shaanxi Provincial Award for Outstanding Teaching Achievements, and has published hundreds of academic papers in various important journals.
The Department of FinTech hascultivateda large number of outstanding talents for China's financial system. Our schoolmatescan be found in the information technology departments of the People's Bank of China,variousmajor commercial banks, securities companies, insurance companies and other financial institutions. Students have won 15 awards in the Citi Cup FinTech Competitionduring the past years, including 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. Thedepartment hasvarious economic and financial data resources such as CSMAR and CEIC. We have platforms including the‘Financial Business Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Research Centre’,‘Western China Financial Engineering Research Centre’,‘The Belt and Road FinTech Research Institute’, ‘FinTech Innovation Research Base of Shaanxi’, ‘Financial Engineering Innovation Experimental Platform ofTonghuashun FinTech Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University. All these platforms canprovide rich resources for teaching, research, innovative andentrepreneurial activities.
