报告人简介：
Dr. Simon George Brook Cowan,Wigmore Clarendon Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Worcester College, Oxford, and Associate Professor in Economics, Department of Economics. He has made seminal contributions to price discrimination, public utility regulation, and environmental policy research. Author of over 40 articles in top-tier journals including American Economic Review, he edited the Oxford Economic Papers (1996-2005) and served as Vice President of Worcester College and Head of Oxford's Economics Department. His expertise extends to editorial roles at Journal of Regulatory Economics and 10+ other journals.Recognized with Oxford's Teaching Excellence Award, he has mentored numerous political leaders while providing policy counsel to the World Bank and UK National Audit Office. His research insights have been showcased through keynote speeches at prestigious institutions including London Business School and Australian National University.
Abstract:A firm acts as a monopolist in one market and faces competition inanother market. Should it be required to set the same price in itsmonopoly market as arises in the competitive market? In general, social welfare is increased by such a uniform pricing requirement, despite thefact that it induces the monopolist to compete less aggressively in thecompetitive market.
